When using the console to give myself 1 Renown, I received 1 full Renown - but that also let me see tenths of a renown when I did. So I used that to monitor my Renown gain for a couple of days - just sitting and doing nothing else - and yup, got 0.1 Renown for each profitable workshop. Thanks for the suggestion, Katsika.
You can get 40+ for a single battle so it is really the fastest way. I put decent amount of points into steward and carry all foods at all time to max size. Start of game I buy some pack horse and a second quiver, then solo raiders withdrawing if I run out of arrows, be sure to stay above 20% health while solo.
